How it started?

I started with my own experience when having to take care of both my elderly parents.  I later decided to explore my options into eldercare to see how I can have more impact on people who are around me, and to incorporate this journey into my retirement plan.  During my eldercare course with Hua Mei Training Academy and the various attachments I served, I am deeply inspired by many selfless individuals who were very dedicated in taking care of their love ones, as well as many fantastic caregivers and service providers who went the extra miles in caring for the elderly.

With wide range of concerns in eldercare, some areas I think are particularly important…

Urinary incontinence (UI), involuntary urination, is any leakage of urine.  It can be a common and distressing problem, which may have a profound impact on quality of life.  Urinary incontinence almost always results from an underlying treatable medical condition but is under-reported to medical practitioners.  Careful selection of suitable incontinent products, to a very large extend, can improve the quality of lives.

Mobility care — ability to stay mobile or to regain mobility is very important to the elderly even it is just within their own surrounding.  Being able to do something or getting something done on one’s own gives them sense of confident and pride…  Make sure they are properly fitted with the right aids such as a basic cane, carefully selected walker, a motorized scooter to help him or her to stay mobile, etc., and to the extend of making sure that his or her surroundings are made easy with the right equipment such as wheelchair ramps.

Daily cares – activities of daily living (ADL) can be as challenging for our love ones as they get older and weaker.  Such basic tasks as self-care like bathing, feeding oneself, dressing, grooming and homemaking within an individual’s place of residence, or leisure activities within a community environment, both in and outdoor.  Choosing the right aids can often facilitate their daily activities and making these tasks less of a chore to our elderly.

Emotional care – often taken for granted but a real essential to every one of us, especially for our elder and weaker parents as well as their caregivers.  Making sure one is well-prepared with right aids also help to make their days.
